Contact the Rochester Gay Men's Chorus
Welcome to the Rochester Gay Men’s Chorus and our 35th Anniversary Season.
35 years ago, five men met together in a living room and began what today has become a 50 plus member strong singing group. As we celebrate our 35th Season, we want to thank all of our patrons, donors, sponsors, chorines and staff for a wonderfully uplifting journey.
When the RGMC was founded, the struggle for equality was still in its relative infancy and our founding and early members raised their voices to share their stories and talents in song, establishing the RGMC as a performance group known for its artistic excellence and commitment to the LGBT community. Today, the RGMC continues to partner with our friends and allies in the community to promote awareness and acceptance.
Under the current direction of Artistic Director Dr. Robert Strauss, the chorus now regularly features 50 plus singers on stage, along with our singularly unique dance troupe The Rochettes. The chorus regularly goes out into the community to sing at places such as SUNY Brockport, SUNY Geneseo and Genesee Community College, REAF, Asbury First United Methodist Church, the RGH Gala, the TedX talks, PRIDE, the Puerto Rican Festival, and more.
We are excited this coming year to share with you our 35th Season, as we share with you Our Favorite Things in December with special guests Thomas Warfield and the Flower City Pride Band. In March, we present Two Boys Kissing in partnership with Blackfriars Theater, a musical work exploring acceptance, coming out, and relationships. We end our anniversary year in June by going Back to Broadway, with wonderful Broadway hits from over the years and featuring our special guest Mrs. Kasha Davis.
It continues to be an honor and privilege to serve the chorus as its current Board Chair. The chorus membership is open to all and we pride ourselves on providing an inclusive, safe, and social place to come together, sing, and network. Our mission states “the Rochester Gay Men’s Chorus creates social change through excellence in the choral arts” and never have these words been truer or dearer to our hearts.
On behalf of the Rochester Gay Men’s Chorus, thank you for your support and we shall see you in the seats.
