GALA Choruses, Inc. was incorporated on July 26, 1983 (two months after the first RGMC concert) and is now the leading association committed to serving the GLBT choral movement. Our beginnings can be traced back to 1975 with formation of Philadelphia’s Anna Crusis Women's Choir, followed in rapid succession by the formation the Stonewall Chorale, the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus, and choruses in New York City, Dallas, Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, Vancouver and other cities. Today, there are over 180 member choruses located throughout North America, Europe, South America, Africa, and Australia.
The Rochester Gay Men's Chorus has attended every GALA festival since its inception, and has performed at the majority of them. Members of the chorus form our GALA Delegation and fundraise monies to participate in the quadrennial fesitval. As a member of GALA Choruses, the RGMC is able to network with our fellow choruses and access a wide variety of resources available for everything from recruitment and leadership training, to board development and financial advisement.
In 2016, the RGMC sent a delegation of 20 members to perform at GALA 2016 under the direction of Dr. Robert Strauss.
Festival 2020 Minneapolis will be held on July 4-8, 2020. The primary performance spaces will be Orchestra Hall, the auditorium in the Convention Center and Central Lutheran Church. Fundraising efforts are already underway as the RGMC begins the journey to GALA 2020 Minneapolis.
